Project Description

In Latin America and the Caribbean, over 180 million people live in precarious conditions, often without access to adequate housing. The majority lack property ownership and regular access to essential services, creating densely populated informal settlements. Here, more than half of the population does not hold formal land titles, nor do they have consistent access to even one basic service.

TECHO, a youth-led organization, has taken a stand to change this reality. Motivated by a conviction that inequality and poverty in Latin America can be addressed through collective action, over 1.5 million young people have volunteered with TECHO to empower communities in need. The organization believes that by acting together, we can build cities that reflect the values of equity and justice.

How does your donation help?

  • Construct safe housing: Funds go directly towards providing materials and labor to build safe, affordable homes, replacing unstable structures with resilient housing for families in informal settlements.
  • Enhance essential infrastructure: Your support helps TECHO provide access to clean water, electricity, and sewage systems—basic services that are often missing in these communities.
  • Empower families and communities: Beyond just building homes, TECHO works to strengthen families’ skills and resilience, fostering an environment where communities can thrive in the long term.
  • Support youth-led change: TECHO mobilizes thousands of young volunteers, building a movement that not only builds homes but also advocates for systemic change and greater equality across Latin America.

With your help, we can bridge gaps in basic living standards and create equitable opportunities for millions, advancing toward a future where every family has a place to call home.
