his initiative supports the provision of energy-efficient stoves, clean water, electricity, education for women, and livestock management strategies in the Maasai area.
By introducing energy-efficient stoves, the program helps reduce harmful smoke emissions and firewood consumption, promoting healthier living environments.
The provision of clean water and electricity improves daily living conditions and enhances community health. Additionally, the initiative focuses on empowering women through education, enabling them to play a more active role in their communities.
Livestock management training equips the Maasai with the skills necessary to optimize their traditional practices, thereby improving food security and economic stability.
This comprehensive approach not only addresses immediate needs but also fosters long-term sustainability and community development.
The Maasai Stoves & Solar Project Since 2009, the Maasai Stoves & Solar Project has been the primary focus of the International Collaborative for Science, Education, and the Environment (ICSEE), a non-profit organization. This project empowers Maasai communities, especially women, by providing safe, clean water, healthier homes, and shared electricity.
The project has installed over 7,000 stoves, benefiting 35,000 people by reducing indoor air pollution and the risk of burns. Each stove lowers carbon dioxide emissions by 3.6 tons per year. Additionally, 65 bomas now have solar micro-grids, and homes not on micro-grids have single-home solar-electric systems.
ICSEE's initiatives include:
Training Maasai women to install stoves and solar systems, promoting local employment. Manufacturing stove parts locally to stimulate the economy. Installing pond-side chlorination systems for clean water. Constructing demonstration cattle feedlots and Smart Farms for climate change adaptation. With headquarters in Monduli Town, Arusha, and a project hub in Mto wa Mbu, ICSEE operates in Monduli, Longido, Simanjiro, and Ngorongoro districts. Their resources include vehicles, motorcycles, and a tractor to support project activities.
The Maasai Stoves & Solar Project has significantly improved health, environmental conservation, and economic development in over thirty Maasai villages. The project has also enhanced women's skills and leadership, ensuring sustainable community growth.
Join us in supporting the Maasai Stoves & Solar Project to create a better life for the Maasai people.
